Her eyes were hard, and bore into Boho with the suspicion he deserved, as Ripple ran for the eggs. Gathering his wit and ripping his attention from the snake-like gaze and chased after the eggs himself in a panic- how much had they seen?
Pouncing, Boho captured one egg, and scrambled to get purchase on a second right before it slipped away, rolling dangerously away... Until High Priestess tenderly caught it, picking it up and turning it calmly every which way, inspecting it carefully for flaw or hairline crack. Boho sent a look of worry to Ripple, noting thankfully that she had caught the third egg.
“Well now, isn't this a surprise?” High Priestess breathed, shifting her gaze to the two cowering halflings. “I was under the impression you were both charged with protecting these young lords... I must confess myself,” The large pokemon's voice turned hard as centuries-frozen ice, “Disappointed.”
“Please, High Priestess!” Ripple suddenly blurted, the sweet, shy hybrid shaking her fur off, “It was my fault, I knew Boho was unskilled at caring for eggs but I still answered my summons. Please,” She squeaked, “Please, forgive me. Forgive us both.”
Boho watched her, shocked. Not only did she speak up to one of the most powerful Vulcans alive, but she covered for him, when the evidence was so obviously against him... A loyal friend, and he had failed her. He let out a low sigh, fearing for what was coming for them next-
“My dear lady,” High Priestess started, “Some simply aren't made for caretaking. That's what the castes are for, and it seems our esteemed rulers have made a mistake to assign a task outside the caste. Say your goodbyes- I will be back for all the eggs within the hour.”
